Committing To A Strong At-Home Oral Care Routine
Dental patients of all ages and conditions should follow the American Dental Association’s recommendation for a strong at-home oral care routine. This includes brushing twice daily for at least two minutes with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and flossing between each tooth at least once daily. These two steps keep your teeth clean and healthy, free from plaque, which is the first stage of teeth decay and can lead to serious dental complications.

Biannual Dental Examinations and Cleanings 
In addition to a strong at-home routine to keep your mouth fresh and clean, the ADA also recommends seeing your dentist at least every six months to ensure that your smile stays healthy. These routine visits will also include a dental cleaning, which removes any evidence of plaque or tartar your brushing or flossing may have missed.

How Your Diet Affects Your Teeth 
Sugar in and of itself is not necessarily bad for your teeth. However, if allowed to remain on the teeth, the sugars in foods feed the bacteria found in your mouth, causing it to grow and build up and form plaque, the first sign of teeth decay. Avoiding sugary foods and drinks and sticky candies can greatly reduce your risk of teeth decay. Eating foods high in calcium can also contribute to a healthy smile by helping to strengthen the teeth.
